Acting Club : The acting club aims to provide those with an initial interest in acting an opportunity to learn more about the art. Acting club is also to offer each student a fully comprehensive, nationally competitive education and training in the craft and discipline of acting,. To train and develop the acting skills and to cultivate the creative talent of each astudent so that, upon graduation, he or she is able to create, embody, and play a character from any period of dramatic literature in any performance medium, integrating vocal, physical, textual, and imaginative resources; capable of self-generating new creative material, whether solo or as part of a team or group, in the media of theatre, solo performance, and film, including “virtual” auditioning; fully prepared to undrestand specific demands of the entertainment industry.

Anime Club : The purpose of this club is to expose students to the world of Anime. With each week, we will explore new anime series and discuss our views on what the show may be about, as well as what other thoughts on them. This club will be explicitly viewing anime. There will not be any drawings conducted, though they are encouraged in personal time. The goal of the club will be to engage students in exploring their own imaginations and to think through storylines.

Arts and Crafts: Arts & Crafts is a club that aimed at developing an understanding on how to appropriately express students themselves through their artwork using elements and principles of design. However, this club also serve as social mixers and allow students to meet other grades with similar interests.

Students in an art club can develop their skills further than the limited time the classroom allows. For instance, they may have a special project that they want to pursue that requires more time and resources than generally available in class. Or, students may wish to create a group project such as making a fresco and learning about the various skills involved in that process. They practice on reflecting an object that was placed in front of them onto a flat surface, allowing them expand their creativity and develop their fine motor skills, brush strokes, and paper or canvas placement.

The club curricula includes art appreciation and history of art. We, Ms Özlem Kinaş and Mr Alperen Aytuğ Yıldırım, as history and art teachers teach students what happened in the past term of visual arts by movements and life of artists in art history as a part of the club. For that matter, they are able to criticise their own works by comparison with others from the world of art.

Students also can engage in service activities within the school as well as outside the school. For example, they can help beautify the school by creating murals for the hallways or classrooms. Art club members can make posters, signs and other decorations for special events such as Christmas or the End of the Year Show.

Band : The Band Club is a student club of TBS that join the students from all grades with a special interest in playing any instruments or singing along. We have been founding a school band whose members will be able to play and sing in variety of styles. It is a 2-hour-per week activity during which each member of the group can enjoy playing their instruments or singing a song with others and share their own ideas.

We took part in our Christmas concert with various songs played by different bands. We are planning to attend the high school music contest in the second term, which we believe to be an amazing and fun experience for both members of the club and for the audience.

The aim of the Band Club is to enable students to have a relaxing and enjoyable time via playing and singing together and sharing their talents and backgrounds about any kind of music with each other.

Reading Club : The book club is a student club of TBS who meet to discuss a book or books that they have read and express their opinions, likes, dislikes, etc. It is more often called simply a book club. Primarily, the purpose of the Reading Club is to create an opportunity for students to become enthusiastic and enthralled with the wonderful world of literature. By organising a reading group it allows students to share the various subjective illusions and opinions generated.

Dance Club : The Dance Club is a student club of TBS that joins the students from all grades with a special interest in dancing. The club is not founded to be professional dance club but rather it is a 2-hour activity per week during which each member of the group can enjoy a dance choreography designed by one or more members of the club. Additionally, students are enjoying presenting their individual dance routines to their club members. We are planning to arrange a dance show during second term, which we believe to be an amazing and fun experience for both members of the club and for the audience.

The aim of the Dance Club is to enable students to have a relaxing and enjoyable time via dancing. I, Nevin Oksuz, act as an advisor and manage the ongoing schedule of the club.

Debate Club : The Debate Club helps students to become more informed about political and global affairs, and provide a venue for students to train for debate competitions with local school, or at a national level. Students are encouraged to read about current events and controversial issues to prepare for debates. The research they do will expand their mind and increase their understanding of important issues. By participating on a debate team, students gain broad, multi-faceted knowledge cutting across several disciplines outside the learner's normal academic subjects. Besides, debating has many other advantages:

It gives students an opportunity to practice speaking in public.
Increasing learners' confidence, poise, and self-esteem.
Providing an engaging, active, learner-centered activity.
Improving rigorous higher order and critical thinking skills.
Enhancing learners' analytical, research and note-taking skills
Developing effective speech composition and delivery.
Encouraging teamwork.

Entrepreneurship Club : The Entrepreneurship Club (eClub) aims to serve the broad range of both high school and prep students at TBS seeking to engage in the topics of entrepreneurial activities, creativity, and innovation in educative and social capacities by fostering a strong network of like-minded students in order to provide value to others in the eClub, the TBS Community and the world.We aim to achieve this by organizing a diverse speaker series from the business world, creative workshops, socials reqularly and networking events. We also host and participate in numerous startup events entrepreneurship competitions and more. We also have access to mentoring and coaching opportunities from successful entrepreneurs and various investors. We promote and encourage immersion in TBS innovation ecosystem and fostering startup community.

MUN Club : Model United Nations, is an academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Participants in Model UN conferences, known as delegates, are placed in committees and assigned countries, or occasionally other organizations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics that their committee will discuss. Delegates conduct research before conferences and formulate positions that they will then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member they represent. At the end of a conference, the best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, are sometimes recognized with awards.

TBS continues to have a very strong MUN team, with active participants form high school. The team have attended Greece, Russia and Turkey Kabataş the previous years. Five of our students from the MUN team successfully represented our school in the EYP (European Youth Parliament) conference in November 2017 at Robert College in Istanbul. This year we are attending 2 MUN conferences. in February, Thessaloniki, Greece and in April Barcelona, Spain. We also have plans to attend the EYP conference in Koç High School.

JMUN Club : United Nations (UN) is an international organization which works to achieve world peace. Model United Nations (MUN) is an activity held in schools all around the world, where students simulate the real United Nations. JMUN is a unique event since it is organized for middle-school students and run by high school students. JMUN helps students develop their verbal and written English. It also improves debating, public-speaking and problem-solving skills. JMUN conferences raise the youth’s awareness of global problems and introduce them to people from different backgrounds. JMUN works in the official language of the UN which is English. Students form teams called “delegations” (country or non-governmental organization) and represent them throughout the conference. Every student in a delegation is called a delegate. In conferences, delegates are separated into different committees and in committees, they research important world problems with other delegates from different schools. They find solutions to these problems and make recommendations to the UN with a view to achieving peace and stability and creating a better world for the future.

TBS JMUN Team participated in a conference held at a private school in Istanbul. 6 of our secondary school students successfully represented FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) in Cyber Security, Education, Health, Sustainability, Urbanization and Youth Committees. The topic was “Confronting Extremism”. For 3.5 days, students talked about the extremist groups, especially in the Middle East, and tried to come up with solutions to the problems these extremist groups are creating, in their commitees.

This year we are attending the JMUNESCO conference BLIS in Ankara. We also have plans to attend the JMUN conference in ITU in June.

Photography Club : In photography club, students work with cameras to explore different parts of digital photography. Students will learn to use the different settings on the cameras and to shoot in manual mode. We will be exploring a range of photography such as portraits, action shots, landscapes, low light, artificial light, and natural light. There will also be themed weekly photo challenges for the students to participate in. It is helpful but not necessary for the students to have their own cameras. The club meets fridays at 2:10 pm in toren area.

Piano Club: Piano Club is for understanding yourself and other people better. Playing a musical instrument can help you to express your emotions. Since the piano, as a unique instrument, provides both melody and harmony, you may play solo or as a accompanist. This leads you to connect with folks.

Playing the piano is not only fun, it also provides perfect exercise for your brain. It has been proved that playing the piano engages your whole brain. You will learn music notation based on your favourite genre under the teacher´s supervision. At the end of the year, you will be given an opportunity to perform in front of the school´s audience and parents.

APP Club : The students learn how to program mobile apps with MIT's App Inventor in App Club. They learn programming concepts and terminology and how to build many types of apps. App Inventor is a visual, drag-and-drop tool for building mobile apps on the Android platform. The students design the user interface (the visual appearance) of an app using a web-based graphical user interface (GUI) builder, then they specify the app’s behavior by piecing together “blocks” as if they were working on a puzzle.

Strategy Club : Chess is a game that incorporates many aspects of what is required of a good Cambridge students. Skills and abilities such as: knowledge, an inquiring nature, communication, open-minded, reflective, principled and independent thinking, all form part of an balanced student’s arsenal. In the chess club we build on these skills whiles having fun in a relaxed classroom setting. Our students are also encouraged to be globally minded individuals, and as such, regularly take part in interschool competitions where they get to interact with students and viewpoints outside our own school boundaries..

Student Council : Student council is a club that is aimed at giving students the opportunity to learn leadership and communication skills by working as a team to organise charity and social events for students at TBS. Students are carefully selected to be part of the club as responsibility and a keen desire to do volunteering work are part of the criteria in being successful within the club. Students come together once a week to brainstorm, discuss and plan ideas for finding ways to improve the school environment and make TBS a positive learning environment. The Student Council club is a fantastic addition to a student’s portfolio and shows that they have developed skills that are necessary to be great leaders in the future.

Table Tennis Club : At Tarabya British School in table tennis club our intention is to promote the sport of Table Tennis within the school community and provide the facilities, and the social environment to participate, learn and compete in this enjoyable lifetime sport through coaching, practice, leagues, tournaments and open play. If you want to, you can join the club and meet other people who share your passion for this fast paced Olympic sport.

Rowing Club : Led by Mr. Dünya our rowing club does their training with experienced coaches in cooperation with Altınboynuz Rowing Club which is situated right next to Rahmi Koç Museum in Golden Horn. Our students have formed the first coastal rowing team in school basis by training as quadruple sculls. In this club the first step is to give our students the basic rowing skills. The second step is to make these skills perfect. As the last step we prepare our students for the Spring Cup and school sports rowing races. In its 4th year now, some of our students got the chance of getting coastal rowing licences given by Turkish Rowing Federation and made their portfolio even better for university applications thanks to our rowing programme.

Science Club

The purpose of the Science Club is to increase the students interest in science and technology by helping students to acquire basic knowledge of science. The students in the science club are encouraged to participate actively in the extracurricular science activities. Activities include field trips, scientific discussions, presentations on research topics, experiments. Most of the time activities are chosen and prepared by the students themselves. This leads to a positive outcome for all involved. Eventually Science Club helps students to develop awareness of and concern for scientific issues in personal, social, environmental and technological contexts.

STUDENT CLUBS
